music saved my life: Youths benefiting from Music Education
In 2014 the Asbury Park Music Foundation partnered with local music school and recording studio Lakehouse Music Academy to launch a youth initiative program. Within a year the program raised $60,000 to fund a music curriculum Hope Academy Charter School. Over 200 Asbury Park students would now have music class during the school day. The youth initiative has continued to grow and in 2015 became known as Music Saved My Life. Music Saved My life currently includes two additional programs: The Hip Hop Institute and Asbury Park Summer Recreation Program. In partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Monmouth County Music Saved My Life created the Hip Hop Institute. A small recording studio was retro fitted into the club on the West Side of Asbury Park. Audio Engineering, Hip Hop Dance and Record Label 101 are offered to under served students all year. In 2015, The Asbury Park Summer Camp was able to add a music component thanks to the support of Music Saved My Life.
